Cheating In Marriages And Relationships: A Deeper Understanding

The current climate in marriages and relationships is at a very critical point. These days most relationships are shaky. It is easier for them to break down than stay strong and grow. One of the most common reasons for this, according to research, is cheating. This attitude though has a much deeper root-cause. And that is the lack of control of a single emotion: Greed.

Greed

Cheating physically is what many of us understand to be a big problem in marriages and relationships. Yet one of the human emotions mostly connected to cheating, greed has an internal aspect rather than physical.

Greed is a powerful human emotion that drives the insatiable desire for more. It fuels selfishness, undermines compassion, and distorts priorities, often leading to a relentless pursuit of more pleasure.

Personal Growth

Emotions that humans find hard to control, such as anger, jealousy, and greed, can indeed be detrimental. They have the potential to cloud judgement, strain relationships, and contribute to harmful actions. Learning to manage and channel these emotions constructively is crucial for personal growth and fostering healthier connections.

Cheating, as we all know, involves the desire of “another” woman or man, a desire of what you already have.

Hard To Control

The aim of cheating amongst many other reasons such as revenge or freedom is to find pleasure with another “somebody”. Yet this is counterproductive as it is a psychological approach of depending on others for your pleasure. But once cheating starts, it can become a habit, and since habits can be very hard to control, the outside world can let you down any time.

Many studies have found that cheating can be the result of past problems, in past marriages as well as the lack of emotional intelligence.

Influence

But it is also true that many factors such as the media, advertising boards, TV channels, social media can all be part of the problem, since there are numerous contents and programs that have a strong influence on many.

The human mind, as most of us know, is geared to pleasure. So in a deep sense, it can be influenced to the point where it acquires the emotion of greed and a lack of control of it.

In a world where we value liberty, it is easy to let the mind wander off, watching images, videos, movies, adverts as well as people, that will influence the mind and ultimately a cheating behaviour.

Understanding the deeper causes of cheating may help one develop the power to control their emotions to the point where they can resist cheating. It is more of an internal problem than it is external. Learning self-control or other spiritual tools such as mindfulness can help
